Limmud - The value of fiction in keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive

Fiction can be a powerful tool for building empathy – giving the reader a glimpse into another world, a way to imagine the experiences of others. But writing fiction about the Holocaust can also be problematic, even voyeuristic. Suzanne Leal's novels The Deceptions, a work of adult literary fiction, and Running with Ivan, a time travel story for children, each tell stories of the Holocaust from an Australian present. In this session Suzanne will explore the role of fiction in keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive and relevant, and the ethics of telling other people's stories, followed by a Q&A.
