Suzanne’s guest - Leah Kaminsky - Thursday Book Club on 3 September
Suzanne’s guest - Leah Kaminsky.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Leah Kaminsky will be my guest at Thursday Book Club on 3 September 2020.
Leah Kaminsky is a physician and award-winning writer. Her debut novel The Waiting Room won the Voss Literary Prize and was shortlisted for the Helen Asher Award.
Leah has come to even greater acclaim with her new book The Hollow Bones which won the 2019 International Book Award in both Literary Fiction & Historical Fiction categories and the 2019 Best Book Award for Literary Fiction.
Leah will be talking to us about her work as a writer and a doctor and how she manages to juggle these two roles - especially in the middle of a pandemic.
What is Thursday Book Club?
This virtual book club was conceived in April this year when Australia went into lockdown. I wanted a way to connect online with people – and to connect people together – while we were all stuck at home. At a time when travelling and venturing out was off the agenda, I remembered what I had discovered as a child: that books have the power to catapult the reader into new and extraordinary worlds. So, too, books had the power to connect us when separated by distance – and a pandemic – and an online book club could provide us with a meeting point. But it needed to be fun. And to be fun, it needed to be relaxed, friendly, obligation free and a bit exciting.
With this in mind, Thursday Book Club is:
- short. It starts at 8pm and it ends at 830pm. You can have dinner and get the kids to bed first, then still have time for a movie afterwards.
- weekly. This makes it easy to remember.
- guilt-free. Because there are no scheduled books to read, no-one needs to feel guilty about what they haven’t managed to read. Thursday Book Club is simply a general chat on Zoom about books we like and books we’re reading. Your book recommendations are then included in my newsletter the following week.
-relaxed. You can turn up late or leave early. If you’d prefer to listen rather than talk, that’s fine too.
- a bit exciting. As a writer, I’m often a guest at other book clubs. I enjoy this so much, I thought it might be fun to invite my own guests to pop into Thursday Book Club every now and then.
I’d also like to welcome everyone who’s just signed up for my newsletter (sign up option at the bottom of the site) and those of you who are new to my online book club, Thursday Book Club.
Drop in to Thursday Book Club as you can – it doesn’t matter if you’re late or have to leave early. Just join my Zoom conference room at 8pm on Thursdays by clicking on this link: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/8521042343
